THIS MULTIMEDIA PROJECT This project is about the history of Woodstock from the perspective of its influence of American counterculture.

The story begins with an overview of the region beginning in the 1820s and '30s with early industry such as glass and bluestone, nascent tourism with the addition of several mountain houses, and the birth of the Hudson River School of Painters with Thomas Cole. This sets the scene for why artists were attracted to the area.

It then expands the topic of Woodstock's history (which generally begins with the establishment of the Byrdcliffe colony in 1902) into the early development of counterculture and Utopian philosophy, the Arts & Crafts Movement, the evolution of visual arts styles, the multitude of strong connections to New York City, and the influx of musicians, from folk to rock. Touching on the iconic 1969 festival, the story concludes with today's vibrant arts scene.

In addition to the film segments which will ultimately be weaved into a full-length feature documentary, we are in production on a full-color book featuring hundreds of rare, restored photographs and concise, informative text. We also produce an annual live multimedia presentation featuring historic photographs and lesser-known anecdotes.
